About This Design
From 25 July to 4 August 2002, Manchester hosted the biggest competition in the 72-year history of the Games. Athletes competed in fourteen individual sports and three team sports over ten days of sporting excellence. The design depicts a figure with a banner divided into lines symbolizing swimming pool lanes, completed with the edge inscription “SPIRIT OF FRIENDSHIP · MANCHESTER 2002”.
This England version is one of four coins produced, each distinguished by a cameo of their respective national flags. The 2002 Commonwealth Games England £2 has a mintage of 650,500.
