The Act of Union £2 2007 commemorates the 300th anniversary of the political union between Scotland and England. Design Details

The reverse design divides the coin into four quarters, with a rose and thistle occupying two quarters and a portcullis in each of the remaining quarters. The design is surrounded by the dates ‘1707’, ‘2007’ and the denomination ‘TWO POUNDS’. The obverse features the portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.

Historical Significance

When James VI of Scotland became James I of England in 1603, the two countries were united under one monarchy. However, it took more than a century before Scotland and England were finally united under one Parliament through the Act of Union passed in 1707.
