Commonwealth Games 2002 Northern Ireland £2 – Circulated Coin

The Commonwealth Games 2002 Northern Ireland £2 celebrates Manchester hosting this prestigious sporting event. This circulated version features Matthew Bonaccorsi’s reverse design representing celebration, victory and sportsmanship with a moving figure holding aloft a banner. The top of the banner is divided into lines symbolizing swimming pool lanes.

About This Design

From July 25 to August 4, 2002, Manchester hosted the biggest competition in the 72-year history of the Commonwealth Games. Athletes competed in fourteen individual sports and three team sports over ten days of sporting excellence.

This Northern Ireland version is distinguished by its flag cameo and is completed with the edge inscription “SPIRIT OF FRIENDSHIP · MANCHESTER 2002”. Notably, this is the rarest £2 coin in circulation with a mintage of just 485,500.

Circulation Condition

As a circulated coin, this piece has been in public circulation and will show signs of normal wear and handling consistent with its age and circulation history. These marks are part of the coin’s character and history. The condition is typical for a circulated example of this issue.
