2003 UK Coin £1 Silver Proof Piedfort Royal Coat of Arms

The 2003 Royal Coat of Arms silver proof piedfort one pound coin was designed by Eric Sewell. This coin is struck in 0.925 sterling silver, it comes in a presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.

The 2003 £1 coin saw the return of the Royal Arms design used on the original one pound coin which entered into circulation on 21st April 1983.

This is British legal tender and is exempt from Capital Gains Tax.

On the milled edge of the coin is the Llantrisant mint mark – a cross crosslet and the Latin inscription “DECUS ET TUTAMEN”. This translates to “An Ornament And A Safeguard”.

On 28 March 2017, the circulated round pound was replaced by the 12 sided £1 coin. On the 15 October the round £1 coin will cease to be legal tender.

Obverse

The obverse bears the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II introduced on all UK coins in 1998.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin bears the Royal Coat of Arms engraving by Eric Sewell.

*As always with silver the coin may show slight toning/clouding*
