1999 UK Coin £1 Silver Proof Piedfort Scottish Lion

The 1999 Scottish Lion silver proof piedfort one pound coin was designed by Norman Sillman. This British proof coin is struck in 0.925 silver fineness and comes in a presentation box with a certificate.

All £1 coins dated 1999 feature the rampant lion as an emblem of Scotland on the reverse.

On 28 March 2017, the circulated round pound was replaced by the 12 sided £1 coin. On the 15 October the round £1 coin ceased to be legal tender.

Edge

The edge is not only milled but also inscribed with the Latin inscription:

NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT

This translates as “Nobody provokes me with impunity”.

Obverse

The obverse bears the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth IIby Ian Rank-Broadley.

Reverse

The standing rampant lion within a double tressure flory counter flory was designed by Norman Sillman. This is the second time this design has featured on the one pound coin.

*As always with silver the coin may show slight toning/clouding*
