2010 UK Piedfort Silver Proof Annual 5 Coin Set

Coin set may show slight signs of toning!

From a limited edition presentation of 2,500 sets, this .925 sterling silver piedfort proof collection contains the best UK commemorative coinage of 2010. This year, The Royal Mint celebrated 350 years since the restoration of the monarchy: the subject of the Five Pound coin included in this set. Designed by David Cornell this Crown represents the return of Stuart King Charles II from exile in 1660. Gordon Summer’s tribute to Florence Nightingale features on the £2 coin. The Lady with the Lamp founded at nurses training school at St Thomas’ Hospital in London in 1854. This set features two piedfort silver One Pound coins from the Mint’s Capital Cities series: one inspired by London’s coat of arms, the other by Belfast’s. These were both designed by Stuart Devlin. Rounding out the set is a commemorative 50p, issued to mark 100 years since the formation of the Girl Guides. The reverse design by Jonathan Evans and Donna Hainan features the organisations’ three leaf trefoil logo prominently. All the coins in this set are piedforts. Piedfort coins – French for ‘heavy measure’ – are twice the weight and double the thickness of their standard counterparts. Each piece features Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Her Majesty the Queen to the obverse. This set comes in its original glossy black presentation case from The Royal Mint with an information booklet enclosed that doubles as a certificate of authenticity.
