2023 Australian Rough Toothed Dolphin 1oz Silver Bullion Coin
The fifth release in the Dolphin bullion coin series from the Royal Australian Mint is dedicated to the “Rough-toothed Dolphin“.
The motive features two dolphins in the ocean at sunset. The design also includes the inscriptions “ROUGH-TOOTHED DOLPHIN” and “1 oz .999 FINE SILVER”.
The reverse presents the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, complemented with the years of her reign “1952-2022”, as well as the state of issue “AUSTRALIA” and the year of issue “2023”. The mintage is limited to only 25,000 pieces worldwide.
Rough-toothed dolphins (Steno bredanensis) are common in all tropical waters in the world that have sufficient depth and are considered highly intelligent and social animals. They are easily distinguished from their other conspecifics due to their conically shaped heads and very narrow snouts, while they can reach a body length of up to 2.5 meters.
