2014 First World War Outbreak Twenty Pound Silver Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder

The second BU silver Twenty Pound coin issued by The Royal Mint commemorates the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War in 1914. It features a striking design of Britannia and the lion watching over Royal Navy troop ships as they set sail for France. Approximately 1,000,000 British Empire military personnel would go on to perish in the next four years; this £20 coin has been struck to remember those who fought for King and Country and made the ultimate sacrifice. The reverse of the coin was engraved by sculptor John Bergdahl and he majestically recreates Britannia overlooking the first troop ships as they answer the country’s call of duty. The obverse shows Ian Rank Broadley’s engraving of Queen Elizabeth II, which is the fourth UK coin portrait of Her Majesty. Specifications of the coin are a fine silver weight of just over half a troy ounce (15.69 grams) and a diameter of 27.00 millimetres. The designs are struck twice in 0.999 fine silver which gives it a Brilliant Uncirculated finish, which makes it perfect for coin collectors. Just 250,000 were issued by the UK’s national mint in this limited edition presentation.
