The Yeoman Warders 2019 UK £5 Brilliant Uncirculated coin celebrates one of Britain’s most iconic institutions. This stunning commemorative piece is the first in a four-part series honoring the Tower of London released by the Royal Mint in 2019.

The coin features a detailed design by Glyn Davies depicting a Yeoman Warder in full ceremonial uniform, standing proudly while holding a traditional axe. Surrounding this central figure is a partial architectural plan of the Tower of London and Mint Street. When displayed alongside the other three coins in this special series, these architectural elements connect to form a complete map of the Tower complex.

The reverse includes the inscription “TOWER OF LONDON” beneath the main design. The obverse features Jody Clark’s official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which appeared on UK coinage from 2015 to 2023.

Historical Significance

The Yeomen Warders were established in 1485 by King Henry VII, making them the oldest existing military corps in the United Kingdom. Their primary responsibilities include guarding the Crown Jewels, conducting guided tours of the Tower, and caring for the famous ravens. To qualify as a Yeoman Warder, candidates must be retired from the British Armed Forces with at least 22 years of service and have held the rank of warrant officer.

Specifications

This Yeoman Warders 2019 UK £5 Brilliant Uncirculated coin is struck in cupro-nickel alloy, weighing 28.28 grams with a diameter of 38.61 millimeters. As a Brilliant Uncirculated specimen, it has been struck twice during production to achieve a finer finish compared to standard circulation coins.

Your pre-owned limited edition coin comes in its original Royal Mint packaging, making it a perfect addition to any numismatic collection focused on British history or the Tower of London series.
