Diamond Jubilee 2012 UK Five Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder

The Diamond Jubilee 2012 UK Five Pound coin commemorates a historic milestone in British royal history – the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne. This special issue holds particular significance as it represents the first coins ever struck to celebrate a British monarch’s Diamond Jubilee, as no special coins were issued for Queen Victoria’s jubilee in 1897.

The Royal Mint created this commemorative coin as part of a collection marking this momentous occasion. The celebrations extended across Britain and the Commonwealth, featuring a Thames pageant and 2,012 beacons lit worldwide to honor Her Majesty’s six decades of service.

Design Features

This Brilliant Uncirculated Five Pound crown showcases dual portraits designed by renowned sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. The obverse depicts a mature Queen Elizabeth II facing right, adorned in the elaborate Order of the Garter robes. The reverse features an adaptation of Mary Gillick’s first official portrait from 1953, accompanied by the Latin inscription “DIR IGE DEVS GRESSVS MEOS” (May God guide my steps) – words that first appeared on the Gold £5 coin of 1839.

In Rank-Broadley’s interpretation, the young Queen wears laurel crowning with additional laurel below her neck’s truncation. The edge inscription reads “A VOW MADE GOOD,” referencing a speech delivered by Princess Elizabeth in 1947.

Specifications

This crown coin weighs 28.28 grams and is struck in the same cupro-nickel alloy used in circulation coins. However, the Brilliant Uncirculated finish delivers superior quality with enhanced detail visibility and a shinier appearance. This presentation comes from a limited issue of 484,775 pieces in this format and includes the original presentation folder with additional context about Her Majesty’s sixty-year reign.
