2017 Remembrance Day Poppy £5 Five Pounds SILVER Proof Coin

The first British Remembrance Day Five Pound coin from The Royal Mint. Observed on 11 November to recall the date that First World War hostilities ceased, Remembrance Day is an opportunity to honour members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty. In the UK and other Commonwealth countries, poppies are worn as a mark of respect, inspired by the war poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’. Poppies and poetry play a role in the reverse of this remembrance coin, crafted by Royal Mint Graphic Designer, Stephen Taylor.

It shows blooming poppies, picked out in red on this edition, below the words ‘SILENCE SPEAKS WHEN WORDS CAN NOT’. This is a nod to the minute of silence, traditionally held at 11.00 on 11 November. Taylor’s design is paired with Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Majesty the Queen, presented to the obverse. Struck in .925 sterling silver with printed coloured details, this Crown coin measures 38.61 millimetres and has a face value of Five Pounds. From a mintage of 5,000, this piece is offered in its original presentation packaging and capsule with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
