1992 – 1993 UK EC Presidency 50p

Circulating mintage:

109,000

Years of issue:

1992, 1993

Coin Information:

With a mintage of just 109,000 (around half of the Kew Gardens 50p) the EC Presidency is the rarest UK 50p coin to enter circulation. The 1992-1993 50p celebrates the UK’s presidency of the European Council of Ministers, and the completion of the Single Market. The design by Mary Milner Dickens features a conference table seen from above, around which are 12 chairs for the Council of Ministers. The UK is represented at the head of the table which includes 12 stars; one for each member of the EEC, placed in the geographic positions of their capital cities. This coin is no longer in circulation.

Available in Silver Proof and Piedfort

Why is the 1992 Dual-Date 50p Rare?

  • It has the lowest mintage of any UK 50p coin in general circulation, making it highly sought after by collectors.
  • Since the coin was large-sized, many were withdrawn from circulation after the introduction of the smaller 50p in 1997.
  • Its unique dual date feature makes it stand out among other commemorative coins.
