2007 UK Coin £1 Silver Proof Piedfort Millennium Bridge

The 2007 Gateshead Millennium Bridge pound coin represents England. This is the fourth design in a series of national bridges that showcase the superb engineering skills that Great Britain is famous for. This silver proof piedfort £1 is struck in 0.925 sterling silver and comes in a presentation box with certificate.

The 2004 to 2007 one pound coins feature bridges from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The designer is engraver Edwina Ellis, who won a limited competition judged by the Royal Mint Advisory Committee. This is the third design type series of £1 reverse designs. The first series of “Floral” designs was used between 1984 and 1987 and again between 1989 and 1992. The second series of “Heraldry” designs was used between 1994 and 1997 and was then repeated between 1999 and 2002. During the intervening years, and in 2003, the Royal Coat of Arms was used representing the whole of the United Kingdom were employed.

On 28 March 2017, the circulated round pound was replaced by the 12 sided £1 coin. On the 15 October the round £1 coin will cease to be legal tender.
