The Queen Elizabeth II Seventieth Birthday 1996 Five Pound Brilliant Uncirculated coin celebrates a significant milestone in Her Majesty’s life. This commemorative crown comes presented in its original folder, making it a perfect addition to any royal collection.

When Princess Elizabeth was born in 1926, nobody could have foreseen the sequence of events that would lead to her becoming Queen at the age of 25, from her uncle’s abdication to her father’s early death. Seventy years later, The Royal Mint released a series of coins to celebrate her birthday, including this Brilliant Uncirculated Five Pound crown.

The reverse, designed by Avril Vaughan, features Windsor Castle pictured behind five flags. These flags represent various features of Her Majesty’s duty and reign: one bears the Royal Standard, one is the Union Jack, one depicts The Queen’s own personal flag, and the remaining two pennants bear the years 1926 and 2016.

The obverse design is by artist Raphael Maklouf, whose effigy of The Queen was featured on coins from 1985 until 1997. Around the edge is the inscription ‘VIVAT REGINA ELIZABETHA,’ or ‘Long Live Elizabeth’ wishing Her Majesty many more years on the throne.

This Queen Elizabeth II Seventieth Birthday 1996 Five Pound coin is made from cupro-nickel alloy but finished to a much higher standard than circulating coins, making it perfect for collectors. It comes in its original presentation folder, rich with additional information about The Queen’s reign and life, and full of pictures from her seventy years. The coin weighs 28.28 grams, has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres, and had a limited issue of 73,311 in this special commemorative wallet.
