Celebrate the Christmas season with this stunning BU 2018 Nutcracker Five Pound Crown Coin. This coin pays tribute to Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet score associated with the festive period. The ballet play is based on the adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’, and was first performed in Saint Petersburg, Imperial Russia in 1892. Although the production gained mixed reviews at the time, it later proved to be a massive success with Tchaikovsky’s score in the ballet performance gaining critical acclaim. The reverse design of this coin shows four ballerinas and four toy soldiers – central characters to the Nutcracker performance. It was designed by the artist, Harry Brockway. The obverse engraving was designed by Jody Clark, and it shows the timeless fifth British coinage portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II. The limited edition purple packaging consists of a Christmas card and envelope, with the Nutcracker coin encased in a season’s greetings card.
